David had just lost everything. All was gone and after a time of morning with his men this part of verse 6 says, "but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. " Sitting on the ashes of his life David encouraged himself in the Lord. My Sunday School Class just finished lessons in I Samuel and we ended on this note. In the mist of lost you can be encouraged because You know that God is still the Lord, and He is a good God and He has a plan.
This fall I feel the leading to pray through a season of thanksgiving, and praise, because we can encourage ourselves in the Lord our God. I challenge you to read the story and be encouraged.
Father,
Many people are sitting on the ashes of their lives and many have lost so much. People are hurting everywhere not only in France but all over this world. Lord when we suffer lost it is easy to find regret and anger to think on, but Lord, you gave us David with this valuable lesson. These few simple words teach what to do when we are looking at the ashes. Lord, let us be as David and encourage ourselves in You. Let us take our eyes off the smoke of our lives and look at You. Knowing You have a plan, and that you love and care for each one.
Lord we will find strength in the Joy of You. Lord, this fall we need to take the time to encourage ourselves in You our God. We pray this prayer in the name of Jesus our Savior. Amen.
